Why I Volunteer
Volunteers are a large part of our Global Ehsan Relief community. Without our volunteers, we would not be able to reach out to as many beneficiaries as we have had thus far. Moving forward, we aim to reach out and consistently help more beneficiaries.
During our monthly distribution for the month of October, we had a special volunteer with us - Syed, the owner of Tehwalla. Accompanying one of our teams, he joined in distributing aid to underprivileged families in Clementi, Senja Road and Choa Chu Kang.
"What may seem little to us, it means the world to a lot of other people who are in a much bigger need than us.”
Syed first heard of Global Ehsan Relief (GER) after he was approached by GERTV, the media arm of GER for an interview for a segment called Dine for Charity.
“What made me want to be involved as a volunteer is basically, if we don’t take care of our community, then nobody will. So being a home-based business, I really feel the support from our local community and I thought Global Ehsan Relief’s charity efforts are very aligned with what I would like to contribute back to our community.”
Syed agreed that despite being involved in charity and having done many distributions previously, the distribution with GER was an experience unlike any other.
“This was different because we got to see first-hand, for example certain houses that have 11 children, certain houses that had just lost their husband and are struggling to bring up their children. Some of the children I saw were my own children’s age. So that really left an impact on me.”
“And to see how COVID is trapping them in their houses, where for us we can enjoy luxury, but for them it’s nothing much to look up, except the four walls. So the little things that Global Ehsan Relief does, goes a long way to the families. So that’s why I thought this is something that was really an eye-opener for me as well, first and foremost.”
While juggling his full-time job, his family commitments and his home-based business Tehwalla, it’s clear that Syed is a busy man. Despite this, he takes time out of his busy schedule to join us in distributing aid to the underprivileged. It’s clear that he values giving back to the community.
“I think if anybody has any free time on the weekend, in fact any time at all, please join Global Ehsan Relief to do this charity distribution because there’s a lot of people in Singapore, especially after COVID, who are struggling to bring cheer, or even bring food to the table. So please help out and join. You may think it’s little but it goes a long way.
“I would like to thank Global Ehsan Relief for this opportunity and I’m definitely looking forward to more projects with them.”
We would like to thank all our volunteers for their time and commitment to GER.
