The blessed month of Zulhijjah is finally here! This is your last chance to perform the sacred act of Qurban before Eidul Adha.
But what exactly is Qurban about, and why is it important?
Qurban, or Udhiyah as it’s known in Arabic, means sacrifice. In Islam, it refers to the ritual that memorialises Ibrahim A.S. and his son Ismail A.S.
Ibrahim A.S. had a dream where he sacrificed his only son Ismail, and understanding that it was a command from Allah, he brought his son to the spot he saw in his dream. When Ismail A.S. learned of this, he willingly offered himself in devotion to Allah S.W.T. and His command.
To this day, Muslims around the world celebrate and commemorate this act of devotion, by sacrificing their prized animals for the benefit of the whole community.
Here are some of the reasons you shouldn’t miss out on performing Qurban:
1. It’s Affordable
In an effort to make the ibadah of Qurban accessible to all, we’ve made sure to keep it affordable. For as little as $50 you can take part as well!
2. It’s Humanitarian
After sacrifice, the Qurban meat is traditionally given out to the most needy communities in the area. It’s an opportunity to let them enjoy the luxury of meat, which they rarely get, while also helping them to sustain themselves.
GER also offers the option to take it a step further and help even more people in need. Choose a Qurban package and provide extra food aid and fresh meat to families who struggle to eat every day!
3. It’s a Sunnah
And of course, performing Qurban is one of the sunnahs of our beloved Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. He would not only perform his own Qurban, but also do extra on behalf of those who could not afford it, so that they too would get the rewards.
The Qurban season is one of the most important periods of the year for us. For many of the countries we help, Qurban is the only time of the year that they have the chance to consume fresh meat. So each year we do our best to reach as many people as possible to give more of our beneficiaries the chance to enjoy their Eid Adha.
