Ehsan Community Groceries

Restoring Dignity. Sharing Blessings. Strengthening Communities.

Every week in Singapore, many families quietly struggle to put food on the table. Single mothers skipping meals so their children can eat.

Elderly persons living alone, stretching limited resources to survive. Families caring for children with special needs while facing financial hardship.

Orphans and vulnerable households trying their best to make ends meet. At Global Ehsan Relief (GER), we believe that no one should have to face these challenges alone.

Introducing Ehsan Community Groceries — a community-driven initiative that transforms donated groceries into hope, dignity, and practical support for those who need it most.

What is Ehsan Community Groceries?

Every Friday, GER Singapore sets up a community pop-up grocery booth in low income estates where registered beneficiaries from low-income households can select the essential items their families need.

Instead of receiving a pre-packed bag, families are empowered to choose according to their unique circumstances.

A young mother may need baby milk and diapers.

An elderly beneficiary may require rice, cooking oil and canned food.

A family with school-going children may prioritise noodles, sugar and breakfast essentials.

Because every family is different, and dignity begins with choice.

.

The Man Who Puts Others First
Even While Struggling to Stand

Abang Mazlan is 61 years old. Last year, a half-stroke changed everything. He is on unpaid leave, attending therapy, uncertain when — or whether — he will be well enough to return to work.

Most people in his position would be focused entirely on their own recovery. But Abang Mazlan has not had that luxury. Every day, he wakes up and tends to his 79-year-old mother, who is bedridden and fully dependent on him. He is her primary caregiver. He does everything — the lifting, the feeding, the quiet, exhausting vigil of watching over someone you love.

He receives no government assistance. He asks for nothing. He quietly draws from his personal savings, stretching every dollar to cover his own medical needs and his mother's daily care.

As Hari Raya approaches, there are no special preparations at home. No new clothes. No festive cooking. Just the hope that his siblings will be able to arrange transport so his mother can visit her elderly sister — one small moment of joy in an otherwise difficult season.

Abang Mazlan is not asking for your sympathy. He is simply trying to hold on. A warm iftar meal from your donation means one less thing he has to worry about — and one more night he can sit beside his mother, knowing she has been fed.

"We Always Put the Children First"

Madam Norida has lived in her York Hill home for over 20 years. She is a mother of five and a grandmother of three — a woman whose entire world revolves around the people she loves.

But life has not been easy. Her husband, 67, was struck by a speeding PMD rider a year ago and still carries the injuries from that day. Neither of them is currently working. Their SSO assistance ended just last month. They now depend on occasional support from MUIS and the kindness of donors like you.

Inside their home, there is a two-year-old grandchild with eczema who needs constant supervision and extra care. There are bills to pay, daily necessities to manage, and milk to buy for the little ones.

And yet — when Madam Norida speaks, she does not speak about herself. She speaks about her children. About her grandchildren. "We always prioritise their needs over our own," she says, without a trace of self-pity.

She wants you to know that your donations have made a real difference. That during this blessed month of Ramadhan, knowing a meal is coming has lifted a burden she could not fully carry alone. She prays for your health, your barakah, and your continued sustenance. She thanks you — from the depths of a grandmother's heart.
