Ehsan Community Groceries

Every week, quiet struggles play out across Singapore's heartlands. A single mother skips her own dinner so her children can eat. An elderly resident stretches a small allowance to last another seven days. A family caring for a child with special needs juggles medical bills against grocery bills, and groceries usually lose.

These stories rarely make headlines. They happen behind closed doors, in flats just a few blocks from where we live and work. At Global Ehsan Relief Singapore, we believe no one should carry that weight alone.

This is why we launched Ehsan Community Groceries, GERSG's newest initiative and one we're incredibly excited about. Born from a simple but powerful idea, this project sets up monthly pop-up grocery booths in low-income estates across Singapore, right where families need them most.

What Makes It Different

Most food aid comes as a pre-packed bag. Everyone gets the same items, whether they need them or not. Rice for a lactose-intolerant elderly resident. Diapers for a household with no young children. Well-meaning, but often mismatched.

Ehsan Community Groceries flips that model on its head. Registered beneficiaries walk up to our booth and choose what their household actually needs. A young mother might pick up baby milk and diapers. An elderly beneficiary might reach for rice, cooking oil, and canned food. A family with school-going kids might load up on noodles, sugar, and breakfast staples.

Giving families the power to choose respects their circumstances instead of guessing at them. It also means nothing goes to waste and every donated item ends up exactly where it's needed.
